Jonathon Collins Reports
Netball Report - By Luhia Wright Rm1
On Thursday 26th of May we had a competition for the Jonathon Collins
Cup. There were five schools involved - Sacred Heart Petone, St
Brendan's, St Bernadette's, Our Lady of the Rosary and of course
St Michael's. It was a cup donated by Jonathon Collins' family.
There was a netball team and a rugby team tournament. We had netball
at the netball courts and had rugby at school. I was involved in
netball. We all played 4 games. I was centre for my team. Our team
played St Brendan's first and won - the score was 11-6 to us. We
played Our Lady of the Rosary 2 and won 17-2. We then played Our
Lady of the Rosay 1 and won 10-7. We then played Sacred heart Petone,
and lost 11-12 - just by one point.
So then Mrs MacLeod added up all of the points from netball and
rugby and out of the whole competition Sacred Heart Petone won the
trophy.
Rugby Report - By John Mar Rm 1
Thursday 26th May, the day of the Jonathon Collins tournament.
The busses arrived packed with determined students prepared to take
us on. St Bernadette's, St Brendan's, Our Lady of the Rosary and
Sacred Heart Petone.
We changed into our rugby gear then were called to the church.
St Michael's vs St Bernadette's yelled the ref. The whistle blew.
We ran onto the feild full of energy. We said a quick prayer, a
hip hip hooray and we were off. I guess the prayer paid off. It
was a hard game but we won 14-12. After our game we practiced. Then
we waited on the sideline in anticipation. We were up against Sacred
Heart Petone. We drained the spit and saliva off our mouthguards
and jogged onto the field. We got thrashed 36 - 0! We waited another
20 mins then faced St Brendan's. We were all confident AND WE ....
lost! With one game left we had to win. OLR was up against us. it
was our lucky day and we won 24 - 8. I scored two tries.
We were called to the church where the winners were announced and,
obviously the winning team was the one who was most impressive on
the field and that school was ... Sacred Heart Petone. Dissappointed,
we cheered them on, but at least we tried our best and left it up
to God.
