BOARD OF TRUSTEES MEETING-A report on reading presented to the Board
of Trustees on Wednesday night showed that 60% of children in the year
4 to 8 classes are reading at their actual age or above. Our school goal
in reading is to get 70% of children up to their actual age or better.
As parents you can support this goal by promoting reading at home. Read
to your children, listen to your child read, join the Taita library and
talk about what they are reading. If you have any concerns regarding your
child's progress in reading (or any other area) please contact the school
or your class teacher. The reading report is on display in the school
foyer.
FUNDRAISING-At the PISCPL meeting, held on Tuesday night, fundraising
was discussed. The school charges families around $2000 in activity fees
(unfortunately this is not all paid) and fundraises another $4000 through
the fundraising committee. The fundraising committee consists of a small
group of hardworking people who put a great deal of energy and time into
this. The idea has been put forward that the money required from activity
fees and fundraising could be combined and be raised by the whole school.
If a list of fundraising ventures was put together then different groups
or individuals (including teachers and Board) could be responsible for
different ones. I would be interested in any feed back from parents on
this matter. if it seems like a good idea, a meeting needs to be held
soon, for everyone, to discuss it
REMINDER THAT THE SCHOOL IS CLOSING AT 2PM ON MONDAY MARCH 15
DETENTION
Children who break school rules or waste their time in class may be put
on detention. Detention is held twice a week in room 11. A book is kept
with the names of children who are on detention . If a child's name appears
in the detention book three times in a month a letter will go home. If
it appears again parents will be asked to come into school. Half way through
the term a mufti day will be held for all children who have not been in
the book. A copy of the behaviour plan is on display in the foyer for
parents to read.
Please talk to your children about NOT GETTING INTO STRANGE PEOPLES CARS.
There have been two incidents in the last few days of a man in a blue
car trying to get children into his vehicle in the Taita area. Children
should be walking home with brothers or sisters or in a group with their
friends. I would ask that very young children who have just started school
be collected from Room 8.
FOR SALE- Second hand rugby boots. Assorted sizes. See Ronwyn Coffey
WANTED-Old clothing, towels, sheets needed for cleaning rags. If you have
any at home that you could give the school we would be very grateful.
WANTED-As you can see our pathway is looking wonderful. Mr Maka has spread
the soil down either side and will be planting grass there in the future.
The problem is-we have run out of dirt. If you are doing any landscaping
or know of someone who has soil to get rid of, could you contact the school,
so we can arrange to get it from you. Thank You
Sausage Sizzle/Mufti Day-To get a bit of fundraising under way the school
will be having a sausage sizzle on Thursday March 25. Thank you to those
parents and teachers who are donating the food for this. Sausages will
be $1 and there will be no shop lunches that day. There will be a mufti
day on Friday March 26-gold coin donation thanks.
Christian Cultural Commitment
Many schools have a short logo that is used on letterheads, faxes, school
signage etc. This logo , in a few words sums up the essence of the school.
Over the last few weeks Board and staff have been looking at some options
for a school logo that would give people a brief idea of who we are and
what we stand for. We have come up with Christian Cultural Commitment
Any thoughts?
