CONGTRATULATIONS

CHANGE OF DETAILS-We seem to have a lot of incorrect phone numbers and addresses held at the school at present. It is VERY IMPORTANT that we have the correct details. If your child is sick or has an accident at school we need to be able to contact you. Please inform the office if you have recently changed your phone number or address.
DATES-The Paddy Market will now be held on Thursday August 19. This will allow the children more time to plan, make and collect the items to be sold. A timetable leading up to the day will be put out in the first week of next term.
NOTE-The blue events calendar that came home in the first week had a mistake on it. The term finishes on FRIDAY JULY 2 (Not June 2). Thank you to all those people who picked up the mistake and let us know.
RAFFLE-A huge thanks to all the families who contributed to the grocery raffle by donating goods. It was divided into 4 prizes and drawn on Tuesday. The winners were Malo Taeao (who won two of the prizes), Roina Sega and Pita. The tickets sold very quickly and I know that a few people were disappointed that they missed out on getting one. The Paddy Market will also be running raffles so there will be another opportunity. The school raised $400 through this raffle. Thank you to all those who were involved in organising it.
SCHOOL LUNCHES-Many children are still not bringing appropriate lunches to school. Some children seem to think that they have to have chippies for morning tea-this is not so. A sandwich, muffin, raisins, fruit, muesli bar etc all give children more energy than chippies and are healthier in general. Large bags of chippies, fizzy drinks, lollies and gum are NOT ALLOWED at school.
SWEARING-A number of children are using very bad language in the playground. Children are warned if they use swear words and are put on detention if they continue to do so. A letter is also being sent home to you if your child is put on detention for swearing.
JEWELLERY-Jewellery needs to be kept for special occasions and not to be worn at school

At the moment the children throughout the school are looking at leaders, both past and present, within our own communities and in the greater world. They are identifying the characteristics of a good leader and talking about the fact that all people have the ability to lead in certain ways. Even young children can be leaders by following rules and encouraging others to do the same. The work that is being done is in English, Social Studies and Religious Education. All children will also be doing a Health Unit on Food and Nutrition during this term Last week four of our senior children attended a Young Leaders day in Wellington. It was attended by 1,600 people from all over the lower part of the North Island. The speakers included well known sports people and those who had overcome barriers to achieve the goals they had set themselves. Our children are the future leaders of New Zealand. It is important for families and school to work together to ensure that children have the values, skills and education needed to fulfil the future roles they will play.

God bless you all
Linda
