CHICKEN POX-We have at least one child in the school at the moment with
chicken pox. Whilst this is a common childhood illness, that is not serious,
it is a huge concern if families are visiting Lorentina in hospital. At
the moment she is doing really well, but MUST NOT be exposed to anyone
who is ill, as her own immune system is low If families are planning to
visit over the next couple of weeks please ensure that everyone is well.
The incubation period for chicken pox is 10 days so some children may
come down with it next week.
Congratulations to 3 future All Blacks-Thomas Maka, Viane Falaniko and
Hefo Wright all of whom are playing in Hutt Valley Rep teams
REMINDERS...Activity fee of $30 needs to be paid by this Wednesday. We
will be drawing one family on Wednesday that has paid and refunding their
money
Some parents are phoning in with lunch orders very late in the morning.
If you do need to phone in please do so before 9. Children are not able
to come out of class to take phone calls from home. Adrianne is happy
to pass on messages if necessary.
MEDIEVAL DAY
On Wednesday July 2, the school will be holding a Medieval Day to celebrate
all the work that has been completed this term. The school will be open
for parents and visitors to call in and see what the children have been
doing. We would like children to dress in Medieval clothing eg, an appropriate
hat, long dress, a waistcoat etc. Between 11.30 and 12.30 the children
will be involved in playing games that they used to play in the middle
ages. They will eat lunch together in their house groups and put on a
folk dancing display at 1.30 in the afternoon.
UNIFORMS Many of you took the opportunity during the parent interviews
to look at samples of uniform on display in the library. The comments
were mixed. It seems that whilst many parents liked the pinafore, they
felt the colour was too similar to other schools. Unfortunately to keep
the cost down (around $50) the company that makes these only does the
one tartan. We will be investigating other options, but need to keep price
in mind. The boys uniform was very popular, with many people commenting
on how smart the pants were. It appears that many parents think the children
often look scruffy in the uniform at the moment and that a new one will
make our children look a lot neater and tidier. Lots of you felt the quality
of the current uniform was poor, this will also be greatly improved. We
have been amazed at how inexpensive some of the uniform items are. The
girls shirts are cheaper than the polo shirts they have at the moment.
Any changes that are made will not take place until next year. Shoes are
something that will definitely be changing. At the moment we have children
wearing almost every colour imaginable-red, blue, pink, orange etc. A
black shoe (either a sports shoe or a dress shoe) will be compulsory next
year.
