TELLING TALES-This terms curriculum theme called Telling Tales, is based
around fairytales, legends and nursery rhymes. The school production is
also based on well known children's stories and ties in with what the
children are learning in English. The main areas being covered this term
are English, The Arts and Social Studies. The senior students are also
incorporating technology into the unit, through the designing and making
of props.
WEBSITE- The school's website is regularly updated with school news, photos,
events and the newsletter. The website is www.stmichaels.school.nz. Pass
it on to friends and family so that they get a chance to see what's going
on at St Michaels. If any parents would like the school newsletter emailed
to them please let us know as we are happy to do so.
ACCOUNTS-The accounts for the third term have been posted out today. We
have tried to make it easier this year by spreading payments out over
the year. The first term charges were to cover swimming and year 7/8 manual
home, term two the family activity fee and term three visiting performers
and photocopying. Many families prefer to pay a small amount each week
or fortnight during the term, this is fine.
BAPTISM-Thank you to all the parents, children, family and friends who
helped to make the baptism so wonderful. I would like to thank in particular
Mrs McVey and Father Steph who put in a great deal of time preparing the
children and organizing the day.
SPORTS- On Tuesday we have two major sporting events happening for the
year 4 to 8 children. There is a year 7 and 8 rugby tournament on at Fraser
Park (all day) and a year 4 to 6 winter sports tournament at various schools
around the area. We are hosting the touch and netball sections of it.
This will be held from 12 to 2.30.
RAFFLE-The fundraising group will be running a grocery raffle at the school
production. We need the children to bring in grocery items for this. Next
week is CAN week. Could each child please bring a can of food suitable
for a grocery raffle. Thank you.
STORYTELLING- As part of this terms unit the children will be looking
at how different cultures pass down histories through stories and storytelling.
The focus will be particularly on Pacific Island stories and oral history.
Do you have anyone in your family who is a storyteller or who could share
traditional myths and stories with small groups of children. If so could
you please let us know.
CARDS- Yugi'oh cards are banned from school. Children are fighting over
them, loosing them and playing with them during learning times. Anyone
with cards next week will have them taken off them.
