TERM 3 NEWSLETTER Friday August 22, 2003

PACIFIC ISLAND FONO-A big Thank You to all the families that came to the Pacific Island Family Evening last night. Those who came really enjoyed the presentations from the health nurses and the opportunity to share thoughts and ideas with others. The winner of the draw was the Pusa family
SPORTS CLOTHES-At the moment we seem to have a lot of senior children not bringing their sports gear to school. Physical Education is an important part of the day. Not only does it improve children's physical fitness, but it also helps stimulate their brains and improve their ability to learn. Children who do not bring PE clothes are not supposed to do PE. However a few of the children who are not so keen on PE are using this as a way of getting out of it. If children do not get changed uniforms tend to get dirty and smelly. Could you please remind your children that it is important for them to participate in the PE programme and to bring the appropriate clothing. (They are allowed to leave it at school for the whole week). Thank you for your support.
DRIVEWAY-Could parents please drop children off at the road end of the driveway in the mornings rather than coming up to the posts. It is dangerous for little ones walking up the driveway at the same time as cars going up and down.
RAFFLE-We appreciate the donations of canned food that have come in over the last week for our school raffle. Next week is packet week. Foods such as noodles, sauces, biscuits, sugar, flour, teabags etc. would be ideal.
MUFTI DAY-Next Friday is Daffodil Day and the school will be holding a mufti day to raise money for the Cancer Society. All children who wear mufti will need to bring a gold coin donation.
WINNING RUGBY TEAM-Last week our year 7 and 8's took part in a rugby tournament involving teams from all over the Wellington Region. After six games they made it through to the quarter finals, beating St Joseph's Upper Hutt. They then went on to win their semi final against St Brendan's and played a tremendous game to beat Karori Normal 15-0 in the final. This is a great achievement and congratulations to all those involved. Thanks to Mano Flutey who helped coach our team, Eleanor Leala for her organization and all the parents who supported our children on the day.
COMING UP-Arts Splash Practice-Monday August 26 and Mufti Day Donut Orders and BOT Dinner-Friday August 29
