Term 4 Issue 3 Friday November 5, 2004
CULTURAL DAY- Last Friday we celebrated the most awesome cultural
day. It was made all the more special by the wonderful support we
received from parents and friends of the school. Even though the
weather wasn't the best, the feeling in the school was warm and
welcoming. The 'picnic' was held in the hall and it was great to
see children sharing what they had with those around them. A huge
thanks to Don Little who bought his "Frosty Boy" van in
and provided ice creams for what seemed like the whole of Taita.
Don donated his profit to the Year 7/8 camp which was very generous
and truly appreciated. The afternoon concert was the best ever and
was organised and run by the senior students. My personal thanks
to those family members who helped prepare children for this. It
was great to share in so many of the different cultures that we
have in our school. The tone of the day was set with a beautiful
Mass first thing in the morning. Visitors to the school commented
on the amazing singing, beautiful costumes and wonderful participation
by all our children. Thank you Bernadette McVey, Bernadette Hanify
and Noela Paselio for all the work that went into organising the
Mass and preparing the children.
TV RAFFLE-All raffle books and money must be back by this Monday,
November 8. The raffle will be drawn under Police Supervision on
Friday. The winner will then be notified.
DISCO-The annual school disco will be held on Friday November 19,
from 6.30 to 9.30, in the school hall. It is open to all St Michael's
students. Entry fee is $2 and drinks and chippies will be on sale
for $1 each.. A further notice will be put out closer to the time.
SUMMER SHOES- If you are buying your children summer school shoes,
please buy either black or brown Roman sandals or very plain black
or brown sandals. This does not mean you have to go and buy them
new ones if the old ones still fit. However when you do replace
them, do so with regulation school sandals. Thank you.
CONGRATULATIONS to 4 of our senior students who made it through
into the Interzone Cross Country, held earlier in the week. Well
done Jayden, Fa'asolo, Kayton and Viane who all gave it their best.
WELCOME-To our four new five year olds that have started in Room
8. Tamara-Jean Ashcroft, Xavier Seal, Tommy Savaii and Alex Tapueluelu.
Having so many little ones start helps ensure the future growth
of our school.
BAPTISM-With the end of the year looming we have decided to leave
the school Baptisms until the first term next year. Thank you to
all those who have shown an interest in having their child/children
Baptised. We have not forgotten and will be in touch in February.
